For my birthday, Lance bought me tickets to today's Chiefs game. I love football.

We decided to spend last night at my parents' place because they live so much closer to where we were catching a bus. I called yesterday to tell them we were on our way and Dad said, "Cool! We're grilling chicken and Mom picked up something special for dessert but I can't tell you what it is."

So I'm thinking, mmmm. Strawberry cheesecake or something.

"Oh, nononono," Dad says. "Something much better than strawberry cheesecake."

I'm a little bewildered by this because if there are two things the man loves, it's strawberries and cheesecake. (Also chocolate, but that's a story for another time.)

Surprise dessert, as it turns out, is baklava. I love baklava like I love football.

We got to the game and the tailgate party was cool...we didn't stick around for very long because they've started doing pat-downs at all the games and we were told to get to our seats early. Our seats were in the upper deck, 35 rows back. It was quite a hike and it was in the sun, but hey. It's football. It was freaking warm during the game too, and it got a little drunk in our section, but that's life.

Lance and I wound up with some icky looking sunburns. But it was worth it, because we left at the two minute warning at the end of the fourth quarter, and the score was 27-0. We knew the Chiefs were gonna win so we left. All we missed was a touchdown from the other team.

It was a heck of a fun game to be at the stadium watching. It only got bad when, sometime during the fourth quarter, one of the guys near me decides to light a particularly foul-smelling cigarette.

This is bad for many reasons. First, it was blowing straight in my direction. Nothing I did kept me from having to breathe it. That's bad news for the baby. More to the point, it's against stadium regulations and could have gotten him thrown out.

Ah well. The boys won, and that's what matters right now.

I love baklava. I make it at the holidays; my 1/2 Lebanese mother taught me how. I will try to remember to send you some this year. :)

That would be awesome, thank you! Is it hard to make?
